Our Approach
Our approach to SEN Playgrounds is simple- inclusivity is key. Children with Special Educational Needs especially need access to great play provisions where they can practise and develop a whole range of skills: from fine and gross motor control and movement, to sensory development, self-regulation, developing communication skills and making social connections.
From improving attention and working memory, to learning creative problem-solving techniques and developing independence, our team will work alongside you to develop a targeted and supportive play zone.
We have the pleasure of working with many wonderful schools across the UK - including schools for pupils with complex needs, and schools that are seeking to improve their provision for children with Special Educational Needs.
We strive to create inclusive play and learning environments that will support neurodiversity, and guarantee unrestricted access for children with mobility difficulties, visual impairments, and auditory impairments.

Our SEN experts have a wealth of background experience, both from working with SENCOs and other SEN specialists, and teaching children with Special Education Needs themselves. No two schools are the same. Our expertise allows us to work carefully and considerately with you and your pupils, to deliver an outdoor play and learning environment that suits your school’s specific requirements, and your children’s specific needs.
Mill Water School
Mill Water School created a great EYFS space for their pupils to explore, full of interaction opportunities. Whether the children want to immerse themselves in the noise of the Individual Chimes or investigate the feeling of different textures using the Sensory Spinners, pupils can choose their favourite space in this engaging playground.
With our beautiful, fully-inclusive collection of sensory play equipment, children can learn through whole-body experiences that stimulate their seven senses - helping you to provide the scaffolding that they need to make learning relevant, and to make it easier for them to process and remember information.
Polden Bower School
Polden Bower took a multi-faceted approach to their project, customising different areas to target different needs for their pupils and giving them a variety of spaces to choose from. Those looking to satisfy their adventurous side can pop on over to the Multi-Swing Zone, featuring two Timber Swing Sets and one Wheelchair Swing; Swinging movements can provide great relief for sensory integration and vestibular therapy.
For the pupils who prefer a quieter play space with lots of room for relaxation and self-regulation, they can head on over to the Sensory Garden, created with a Wigwam, Secret Garden Gazebo, Sensory Tunnel and more! Each area boasts different activity choices for each pupil.
Hebden Green School
Looking to create a space suitable and entertaining for pupils across all ages, from primary through to sixth-form, Hebden Green decided to create multiple zonal spaces. Featuring a learning hub for a change of learning environment, pupils can enjoy the fresh air during lesson time and have a dedicated breakout space for quiet, focused time.
The MUGA space is also a great space for pupils of all abilities to make use of, with its multi-purpose nature meaning it can be used for a variety of different sports, games and activities. This development is perfect for schools looking to cater for pupils across a wide age range as gently exercising and working on motor control and coordination, physical strength, improved balance, spatial awareness, and core stability is an important part of every day for children with Special Educational Needs.
Fox Hollies School
Creating a natural playground space for their pupils to enjoy was a high priority for Fox Hollies School and they’ve achieved exactly that! The nature zones create an ideal space for pupils to build their personal, social, and emotional development as the nurture the plants and develop key communication skills with their peers as they do so.
The gym equipment also acts as a great heavy work facility, giving pupils a space to express their physical energy through active play and exercise. Pushing and pulling against resistance is a great way to promote upper body strength and stabilization and can help children with SEN to feel calm and regulated.
