From delivering incredible food and drinks to providing great facilities, The White Lion pub has received hundreds of 5-star reviews from all types of people. The pub is constantly looking for new ways to improve itself and this hasn't gone unnoticed from it's regular visitors.
Recently, The White Lion pub has implemented a wide variety of new changes to keep itself community-driven and focused. Ranging from 'Darts and Dominoes Monday' to improving the beer garden, there's something for everyone at this amazing venue. One area that they really wanted to focus on was improving their outdoor play area.
Meeting The Customer
Dave, one of the owners of The White Lion pub, first contacted us earlier this year. He explained that one of his colleagues told him about the fantastic work that Pentagon Play has done for multiple schools across the Cheshire area, which peaked Dave's interest.
After reading through our commercial playground case studies and services, Dave quickly contacted the Pentagon Play team and started to explain what he had envisioned for improving the outdoor play facility.
Their Objectives
During the conversation between Dave and Greg Rossiter, Pentagon Play's Sale Manager, it was made clear that the pub wanted to revamp their current play area. Dave wanted something that would instantly grab the attention of the children who visited and get them on the play area, allowing parents to have a drink in peace!
Not only that, but the pub also wanted the play area to be as safe as possible to minimise the risk of serious injury occurring on the play area. The idea of safety surfacing being installed was incredibly appealing and would allow parents to rest knowing that their children could engage in safe play.

Playbond Surfacing
Manufactured from recycled shredded rubber, Playbond is an eco-friendly playground surfacing option that provides a great level of impact absorption. Not only is this surfacing option easy to install (as it can be installed on nearly every surface type), but it's also entirely porous, allowing your play area to remain puddle-free.
The White Lion pub loved how versatile this surfacing option was and how well it's natural look tied in to the surrounding environment. Dave also loved how the surface type would allow the pay area to remain all-weather accessible too, making it the perfect option for a lot of UK-based businesses.
However, the one aspect that sold the surfacing option was how Playbond was British Standards 'critical fall height' certified. This meant that pre-existing play equipment could be made even safer by having the surfacing option applied around it to meet the critical fall height.
Mam Tor Mountain Climber
Perfect for younger children due to it's low fall height, the Mam Tor Mountain Climber is a fantastic climbing frame that makes the perfect addition to any inclusive playground.
The White Lion pub said that they wanted the playground to appeal to children between the ages of 2 and 10, and having playground equipment like the Mam Tor Mountain Climber means that all ages can have fun on it.
Any outdoor space that has this climbing frame present on it will instantly see children gravitate towards it as their imaginations run wild with the numerous possibilities of how they can play on this piece of playground equipment.
Constructed from high pressure treated 'play grade' timber and steel reinforced ropes, the Mam Tor Mountain Climber has an extremely high level of durability and a long life span. The pub loved this aspect as it meant that they could disperse their investments in other areas and not have to worry about replacing the equipment after a few years.
Commercial play equipment should not only be fun, but should also provide an opportunity for children to develop their skills. Climbing frames (like the Mam Tor) provide a fantastic solution to building climbing confidence and developing physical skills.
Having a fantastic piece of play equipment like this allows The White Lion pub to stand out from the competition by providing outdoor play equipment that assists with child development, whilst providing an inclusive play space with safety standards met.
The Results
Once a couple of months passes, The White Lion pub invited us back to have a look at the impact that our changes had made to the outdoor space. As soon as we saw the play space, we saw a large group of children playing with the Mam Tor Mountain Climber whilst laughing and having fun, a great sign that a successful play environment had been achieved.
Sitting down with Dave, he told us how since the first day the new changes were implemented, he's had nothing but positive feedback from customers and parents. Parents felt a lot happier that their children had a new play space to explore and keep them engaged, giving the adults plenty of time to relax.
Over a period of a few weeks, The White Lion noticed a lot more customers were visiting the pub and a huge spike in positive reviews. From this, the pub has managed to differentiate itself from the competition and has grown it's loyal customer base.
