I spent my childhood growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, home of the pottery industry, where you’ll often be greeted with ‘Duck’ (not to be confused with the feathered bird) as a term of endearment. I enjoyed playing out on the field with friends and biking around the streets, until the day I got overconfident doing ‘no hands’ and fell off, hard! You’d regularly find me doing arts and crafts activities or ‘tinkling the ivories’ - playing piano has remained a lifelong hobby of mine.
I always wanted to be a teacher when growing up, being a little bossy-boots at times! I used to love playing ‘the register’, noting down names and calling them out to tick off one at a time. Turned out my grandad’s entrepreneurship inspired me to venture into the world of business instead, where marketing became my specialism.
At school my favourite subject was music, and I loved getting involved in a good sing-along in the choir (not that I had a very good singing voice mind you… may have made it rain a few times lol). I played a variety of instruments, starting off with the recorder, advancing to clarinet and saxophone where I performed in the school band at various external locations along with other schools. I’m not so sure my sisters appreciated my talent having to listen me to practice most evenings!
With the digital landscape constantly evolving, I love the variation and excitement this brings to my job. I enjoy working alongside like-minded creative marketeers, seeing a project idea go from the drawing board right through to the final live activity. A great aspect of marketing is being able to collaborate alongside all departments within the company, looking for ways to support and improve both internal and external communications.
Aside from work, I tend to be out and about spending quality time with my friends and family. On the one hand, I like to wine and dine, shop till I drop, and visit new places. On the other, I enjoy walks in the great outdoors, exploring the glorious countryside throughout Staffordshire and Cheshire.
As a kid, I once played football on the local Green near to my home with the one and only Robbie Williams. He had returned to Stoke to visit his family after Take That split up… little did I know who he was back then!
Back in 2014, I fundraised over £1.4k for Cancer Research UK by organising and braving a sponsored skydive with my sister, despite being a bit of scaredy-cat when it comes to heights!
