Keeping Children In Manchester Entertained During Summer 2019!
Last year, the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester got in contact with us to offer a wonderful charity opportunity to help the local community of children in Manchester.
Their learning and engagement team’s Early Years Coordinator, Lucy Turner, was in the process of organising another huge Summer Playtime event and wanted our help this year with their Water Play Theme.
The Whitworth Art Gallery knows the importance of water play and wanted to provide children with a fun way to develop a wide variety of their skills.
At Pentagon Play, we love to get involved with every charity event to help children further, which is why we were excited to help the Whitworth Art Gallery with this amazing event.
The Whitworth Art Gallery is located in a deprived area of Manchester, where many parents struggle to entertain their young children throughout the long summer holidays.
As a result of this, the Whitworth decided to set up a free, local event for parents, families, holiday clubs and everyone else to take their children to play freely, without having to worry about the cost.
We donated a variety of playground equipment to help keep the children of Manchester entertained over the summer holidays, including:
- 2 of our excellent Water Wall Packages – adapted to be freestanding and easily moved by the volunteers
- A set of our brand new Nesting Tables to enable children, of all abilities, and adults to participate in water play together.
- 2 Mini Tuff Spot Tables
- 2 Tuff Spot Tables
- A set of our Water Channel Stands
- Multiple Artificial Grass Topped Seats to provide parents and children with space to relax away from play.
The event was very, very successful! Our equipment was used by over 300,000 children across Manchester and surrounding areas for free during the summer holidays. We even saw nursery and out of school groups taking their children on trips to the gallery!
As we love getting involved with charity events that benefit children in the local community, a number of our staff members headed down to the Whitworth Art Gallery to volunteer.
They witnessed parents and children alike getting involved in Water Play. A particular favourite of children of all ages was the water walls. They loved manipulating the channels to pour and guide the water down into the water wheel, cloud or water table.
Speaking to a number of parents, they all mentioned how much they loved the fact that the event was free, local and that their children were entertained as they could spend hours engrossed in water play.
We are looking forward to seeing the next huge Whitworth Playtime event during next years summer holidays.
