The Customer
Nestled on the Essex coast, St Osyths Beach Holiday Park is a beautiful venue where thousands of holiday goers visit every year to escape their busy lives and relax on a beautiful beach.
Having hundreds of 5 star-reviews, there's a variety of reasons as to why St Osyths Beach Holiday Park is the go-to place. From being immaculately clean to having friendly staff, it's hard to find any fault with this place.
To maintain their fantastic reputation, St Osyths Beach Holiday Park looked at a variety of things they could do to keep guests happy. After months of research and discussions, they decided that they wanted to redevelop the play areas on the site and provide more opportunities for play and sport.
Meeting The Customer
St Osyths Beach Holiday Park is one of the 50 locations owned by Park Holidays, a group who operate high-quality holiday parks all across the UK.
We first worked with Park Holidays when they approached us to help them design and build a new play area for their location in Wales (Brynteg Holiday Park) and another location in the North of England (Bowland Fell Holiday Park). With a growing customer-base in the commercial leisure market, we wanted to prove that our expertise in play areas can be applicable to a variety of different industries.
After we completed those two projects, it was safe to say that Park Holidays were blown away by the creativeness and quality of our playground equipment. They were so impressed that they asked us to work on one of their biggest holiday parks and carry out a huge redevelopment project. This led us to working with St Osyths Beach Holiday Park and understanding what they wanted.
Their Objectives
St Osyths Beach Holiday Park wanted to carry out a complete redevelopment of the park, which included providing more opportunities for guests to engage in play and sports. Knowing that their park attracts people of all ages, they wanted to create 3 distinctive play areas that could be used by a wide range of age groups.
The holiday park really wanted a new sports play area which could accommodate a variety of different sports. During our conversations, they also wanted to replace one of their old play areas completely as it had become run-down after years of heavy usage.
Knowing this information, we were excited to start tackling this mammoth of a task and create the perfect commercial playground for an amazing holiday park.
Our Approach
Working in the playground equipment industry for over 25 years, Pentagon Play have earned the reputation of being the UK's #1 for all things playground related.
The key to us earning this reputation is to make every experience a unique and special one. We don't just want to provide fantastic play equipment, but we want to foster a brilliant relationship with each of our customers.
From this core concept, we improve our process to a point where no one else in the industry can match it. From our personable playground consultants to our expert designers, we know how to deliver a fantastic result to any project whilst providing a brilliant level of support and advice.
MUGA Play Area
When it came to creating the ultimate multi use games area, we needed to focus on the 3 key elements that are vital for making an effective sports court:
- The Fencing
- The Surfacing
- The Facilities
Starting with the surface, we applied our industry-famous 4G artificial grass. Passing FIFA's rigorous durability tests and being woven tightly to provide the perfect surface for sports, this artificial grass surfacing was guaranteed to provide the best experience to it's users.
Underneath the surface, a layer of our Shockpad and underlay was applied. Shockpads massively reduce that chance of injuries occurring on your facilities, which can be a huge benefit for a holiday park. Incorporate a layer of underlay too, and the amount of maintenance required to keep the surface in check is massively reduced, making it a cost effective solution for sports.
Once the surface was installed, we then moved on to installing our state-of-the-art MUGA fencing. Built to be incredibly durable, this fencing is a great way to reduce the chances of it's users damaging any surrounding properties.
During this, we also installed an additional 4M of posts, which was required for sports netting and sports netting cover. Adding a cover to the top of the MUGA made it near impossible for any stray balls to cause damage to the holiday park.
The Grizedale Playground
It's important that every play area has one piece of play equipment that instantly grabs a child's attention and helps them release their inner-adventurer. The Grizedale Forest Circuit is the perfect answer to this requirement as children instantly gravitate towards it's magnificent structure.
Constructed from high-pressure treated timber logs and reinforced ropes, the Grizedale Forest Circuit is built to be extremely durable and long lasting.
The best part of the Grizedale is how many different ways children can play with it. From hanging and swinging from the traversed ropes to climbing and jumping across the log steps, every child is sure to find something that they can engage with.
As safety is such an important factor at this holiday park, we decided to lay a surface of Safermats beneath the awe-inspiring Grizedale Forest Circuit. Safermats allow an environment to keep it's natural look by keeping natural grass whilst adding an impact absorbing rubber grid above it.
Installed next to the Grizedale Forest Circuit, the Timber Swing with a group seat allows children who are waiting for a turn on the circuit to still have fun and play together. Surrounding both of these pieces of play equipment, we installed a line of HDPE Bow Top Fencing to add the finishing touches to the area, creating a natural-looking play area.
Play Park For The Little Ones
St Osyths Beach Holiday Park wanted to provide play facilities for all ages and they wanted to redevelop one of their old playgrounds. After removing the previous equipment, it was decided that this new play area would focus on appealing to the toddlers and younger children.
We started by installing a surface of wetpour. This surface has an incredible level of impact absorption and is often to go-to surface for a lot of play areas designed for younger children. In addition, it's extremely customisable and can come in hundreds of different colours!
With the safety surface installed, the Harter Fell Climber could then be installed. Being one of our most popular climbing frames, the Harter Fell Climber is the perfect addition to an age inclusive playground. Encouraging children to use their motor skills, your holiday park could help with the physical development of children.
Around the Harter Fell Climber, a Seal and Dolphin Springer were installed to provide an opportunity of play for the youngest children. Parents can either take a seat on the Perch Bench or push their children on the Timber Swing, both installed by us to provide more inclusivity.
To add the finishing touches, a perimeter of HDPE Bow Top Fencing was installed around the play area to create a vibrant and safe play space!
Outdoor Gym Area
The final area to focus on was creating an outdoor facility that could be used by older children and adults. Instantly, the idea of an outdoor gym came to mind and the holiday park loved it.
The gym equipment that we decided to install included:
- Arm and Pedal Bike
- Chin-up Bars
- The Row and Ride
- Double Air Walker
- Air Skier
Each of these pieces of outdoor gym equipment focus on improving different parts of the body, creating the perfect environment for the holiday park visitors to work out and improve their health.
To improve the safety of the environment, we decided on surfacing the area with Safermats. Using this surfacing type allowed us to maintain the natural beauty of the environment whilst reducing the chances of a serious injury occurring.
The Results
Once a few months had passed, Pentagon Play had the pleasure of returning to St Osyths Beach Holiday Park to see what impact our installations had made. Straight away, we saw a lot more guests outdoors and engaging with the new outdoor facilities.
Sitting down with the holiday park's staff, we learned quickly of how the new play areas had created more spaces for children to explore and play safely in. Alongside this, the MUGA now provided a space where ball games could be played without creating a risk for other park users.
Of course, the children loved it! The amount of smiles we saw and cheers we heard was outstanding, and it's all thanks to the amazing team we've created here at Pentagon Play.
Now, this holiday park has multiple play areas and a sport facility to keep guests engaged and active, differentiating their park from the competitors in such a great way!
